Step 1: Strip and Prepare the Cable

  1. Start by using the wire stripper to carefully remove approximately 1.5 inches (3.81 cm) of the outer insulation from the Ethernet cable. Be cautious not to damage the inner wires during this process.

  2. Once the outer insulation is removed, you'll find several twisted pairs of wires inside. Untwist them and straighten each pair for ease of termination.

Step 2: Arrange the Wires

There are two common wiring standards for Ethernet cables: T568A and T568B. Choose one standard and stick with it consistently throughout your network installation. For this guide, we'll use the T568B standard, but either one will work as long as it's consistent across your network.

Arrange the wires in the following order from left to right:

  1. White/Orange
  2. Orange
  3. White/Green
  4. Blue
  5. White/Blue
  6. Green
  7. White/Brown
  8. Brown

Step 3: Insert Wires into the Keystone Jack

  1. Carefully insert each wire into its respective color-coded slot on the keystone jack. Ensure that each wire goes into the corresponding slot firmly.

  2. Using your punch-down tool, press down firmly on each wire to secure it in place. The tool's impact action trims any excess wire and ensures a solid connection.

  3. Repeat this process for all eight wires, maintaining the same color order throughout.
